Weaving Workshop at Mendocino Art Center

Mendocino Art Center Warp to Weave workshop Lou Grantham
My Memorial Day weekend was spent in the weaving studio at Mendocino Art Center with the incredibly knowledgeable and talented Bay area fibers master Lou Grantham. I have been looking forward to getting into weaving work ever since we got up to this area, as this is where so many weavers/textile artists seem to retire (plus I appear to have an affinity for granny type things). Currently, the program at MAC is shifting over to what is called Pacific Textile Arts right next door to Darrick's woodshop, a place where I hope to get more instruction when their classroom is up and running.

This class I took has been taught by Lou for the last 25 years. I was super excited to warp a floor loom myself, complete a 60" beginners scarf sampler and have a look at the work of more experienced weavers. What a beautiful medium.

This more experienced student had the opportunity to try some rug techniques in a cotton warp with wool weft. Very nice!

My scarf sampler, meaning I tried as many patterns as I could manage. A bit wonky, crooked and just perfect.
Anyone interested in fiber arts in the Bay Area should certainly reach out to Lou, owner of SF Fiber: a resource for classes, any materials and books.
