New Board

Darrick Rasmussen Furniture
For our recently married friends Jaime and Talia, Darrick made this cutting/cheese board out of salvaged Teak (from a boat, hence those holes). Not a bad last minute off-the-cuff cord weaving wrap job too...

Darrick has adopted this carving in his last couple of pieces. It is an abbreviated Killscrow, a native name from my Lenape Delaware side of the family.

Final drawings of Summer 32 Series!

Lana Fee Rasmussen, Treasures 28/32
Treasures, 28/32
Hoping to release much of the work from this entire series to the public as soon as possible! Working this way has been quite interesting- quick and small with little to no pre-sketches. I've heard these images would make great t-shirts, tattoos and prints. I'd love any feedback...

Leslie Williamson in Europe

A couple birthdays ago, I bought Darrick a copy of Handcrafted Modern: At Home With Mid-Century Designers with photos and text by Leslie Williamson (Rizzoli).  It was one of those selfishly rewarding gifts you give your spouse, knowing that you too will benefit. After the first few flips, we both knew this book was very important and still remains as an active reference for us and many of our friends. Leslie is clearly very sensitive to beautifully crafted work and the soul built into the truly priceless environments surrounding the lives of her favorite creators. From raw prototypes, quirky one-offs, treasure collections and textile gems to polished originals and astounding architecture, Leslie captures ALL that a visionary maker surrounds him or herself with.

In researching more about Leslie's work, I found that she is currently working on "a continuation of the project that turned into Handcrafted Modern" in Europe! She gives sneak peaks into the places she visits on her blog and soon we will all be able to pre-order a copy of the book in the works. Here a few of my favorite images that she so graciously allowed me to use, but see it all HERE. If you're a tweeter, you can easily see where she has been as well @lwillphoto.

Thank you Leslie Williamson.

Heirloom Exposition

Heirloom Exposition, Santa Rosa CA 2012
As an ambassador for Fort Bragg's community farm-to-school program, the Noyo Food Forest, I attended the second Heirloom Exposition in Santa Rosa this past Thursday September 13. The lineup of exhibitors and speakers was perfect for any farm/garden/food geek such as myself: a Demeter Biodynamic demo garden, countless varieties of seed, Clarington English garden tools, Japanese Maples, bee and livestock madness; speaking engagements from Ecology Action's founder John Jeavons and Slow Food's founder Carlo Petrini; a video presentation by Vandana Shiva and so much more that I couldn't possibly make way for.

Another perk was that I was able to share a booth with Anne Beck, the co-founder of Fort Bragg's Lost Coast Culture Machine and market the sale of Laurie York and Carmen Goodyear's 2012 dvd release, Women On The Land. LCCM has been making some incredible handmade paper from locally sourced recycled denim, pampas grass, decommissioned US currency and second hand clothing rags as well as offering paper making classes in their space. See more about that HERE

Canning Season

For Bragg Grange, Canning Workshop
This is Nancy.
I recently took my third canning class at the Fort Bragg Grange with my friends Rebecca and Thea. It always feels somewhat of a coven of good witches concocting the season's finest potions. Marty Johnson runs the class, and always brings such interesting recipes. This class: peach/lemon/thyme jam, peach salsa, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, English style pickles, corn salsa, carrot ginger soup, pickled zucchini and a few others...
